Acer Aspire E-series desktop PCs and CU-6530 digital camera win 2006 Red Dot awards for product design

The internationally renowned label for quality design

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (3 April, 2006) -- Acer is pleased to announce that the Aspire E-series desktop PCs and CU-6530 digital still camera have been awarded with the renowned Red Dot for outstanding product design. Presented by Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (DZNW, the quality label is awarded annually for superior design quality and innovative design in the Red Dot Design Award international competition.

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the Red Dot Design Award and president of the international design association ICSID explained, "Creativity by itself is not enough, products also have to be of high quality. And it is also the task of design to communicate this quality."

The Aspire E-series and CU-6530 were awarded within the Media and Home Electronics category, and the judging criteria include the product's degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomic value, durability and ecological soundness.

Acer Aspire E-series marks a new era in user-friendly home multimedia desktop PCs, with enhanced performance, usability, and entertainment features encased within a futuristic form. Luminescent blue lights suggest of the PC's rich multimedia capability, and a light silver and black color scheme blends harmoniously into any location while promoting a sense of tranquility. A non-slip and soft-touch pad on the box is especially handy for placing frequently used products such as the digital camera at a convenient spot, and protecting them from scratches. The Aspire E-series currently features the E300/E350/E500/E600/E650 models.

Acer CU-6530 is an exceptionally compact and versatile digital camera designed around the concept of a wallet, curved lines and soft edges ensure that it fits comfortably in your hand or in the pocket. The CU-6530 features 6.36 mega pixel resolution, high-performance 3X optical zoom, and large 2.5" LTPS LCD screen. Using a sturdy stainless steel casing with automotive paintwork, the CU-6530 makes a stylish accessory that weighs a mere 125g and measures only 18mm in depth. All controls and switches are practically laid out for easy access, and are carefully crafted - guaranteeing accurate operation. To view photos, simply place the camera into the cradle for auto playback, or connect to PC via the USB port for straightforward data transfer.

The DZNW is one of the most highly reputed design institutions in Europe. Since 1955, the institution has been marking outstanding international product design with its famous dot, which represents an acceptance among the very best in design and business. In 2006, the Red Dot Product Design Award received 2068 submissions from 41 countries, of which 485 received the Red Dot quality label. A special exhibition will be held in the Red Dot design museum showcasing the award-winning products from 27 June ~23 July 2006 in Essen, Germany.
