Closing in on Hewlett Packard's narrow lead TAIPEI, TAIWAN (8 June, 2006) -- Acer's notebook ranking in China has reached a record high by achieving the No. 4 position in unit shipment, rising by 208% year-on-year, and closing in on the narrow lead held by Hewlett Packard, according to Q1 2006 data by Gartner Dataquest. Compared to Q4 2005, Acer notebooks grew 136% on quarter, and leapt three places from No. 7 to No. 4 ranking. By narrowing the gap from the leading players, Acer is now in a position to compete with top-tier international brands like Dell and Hewlett Packard in China. The tremendous achievement is attributed to Acer's Channel Business Model, which was deployed in the China market from the second half of 2005. After several months' effort, the model has greatly enhanced Acer's channel structure and relations, streamlining the entire supply chain and readying Acer to face the increasing competitiveness of the IT industry.
