Company will adhere to channel business model -- aims to become world top 3 PC brand in 2007 TAIPEI, TAIWAN, October 25, 2006 -- At today's celebration of Acer Inc.'s 30th anniversary, Chairman J.T. Wang expressed his deepest gratitude to all of Acer's partners and industry associates who have supported Acer through the years. Wang pointed out that the channel business model has proved to be the mainstream model in the PC industry, and he highlighted that Acer will continue to implement this business model with the confidence to break through new barriers as the company marches toward its goal of becoming a global top 3 PC brand in 2007. Wang reflected that in 2001 the direct business model for the PC industry was very strong, while the channel business model was questionable and widely unsupported at that time. As the industry developed, however, the channel business model gained mainstream status and has in fact begun to show its superiority. "Our business direction over the last few years has clearly been correct," stated Wang. Wang went on to note that Acer's channel business model is long-lasting, sustainable, and can be revitalized over time. Down the line, as the PC industry develops and converges, the channel business model will gain further stability. "In the future, Acer will focus 100 percent on the channel business model and enhancing its competitiveness, and will share the resulting growth and benefits with all of its partners," said Wang. Acer President Gianfranco Lanci indicated that, following the company's restructuring in the year 2000, Acer has built a highly effective model for its brand business; this model has laid the foundation for Acer's growth and success in the last few years. "This model -- which can be duplicated across countries -- now serves as a reference for the rest of the industry and confirms that Acer's long-term vision of implementing an indirect business model to compete with the direct model was accurate," Lanci said. "Looking forward, Acer is well prepared to face new challenges. With the channel business model as our cornerstone and the support of our partners, Acer is poised to achieve a position among the top 3 global PC brands in the near future," Lanci added. Since its inception in 1976, Acer has pursued the goal of becoming a globally recognized high-tech brand business, even while facing different challenges at different times, and has consistently modified its direction successfully in order to overcome difficulties and keep moving forward. Acer today held its 30th anniversary celebration to express its profound appreciation of all friends who have supported Acer along the way. Acer invited about 260 honored guests including vendors, distributors, financial associates and media representatives from Taiwan and around the world to participate in its 30th anniversary event held at the Grand Formosa Regent hotel in Taipei. Acer Founder Stan Shih was in attendance, along with Taipei City Mayor Ma Ying-Jeou who made a heartfelt congratulatory speech. Acer believes that each guest at the event today will play a key role in supporting Acer to reach world top 3 PC brand status in 2007.
