Acer clinches three Red Dot 2007 awards for product design

Aspire L350 desktop, Ferrari 1000 notebook and c500 handheld receive internationally renowned label for quality design

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (18 April, 2007) -- Acer has received three Red Dot 2007 awards for product design from the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (DZRW) of Germany. This seal for quality design is awarded annually in the international competition by a jury of renowned design experts, who this year awarded Acer's Aspire L350, Ferrari 1000 and c500 pocket PC with a Red Dot.

"Acer's goal is to develop innovative products that meet our customer's real needs," said Gianfranco Lanci, President, Acer Inc. "This goal remains firm as we aim to become a global top-three PC company. Acer will not sacrifice design innovation and product quality for increased market share."

The DZRW states that the quality seal only goes to products with a particularly sophisticated and innovative design. The jury examines and tests the products, and assesses them according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, ecological compatibility and clarity of function. This year, companies from 43 countries with a total of 2,548 products faced the jury's verdict, and 523 products received a Red Dot.

Acer Aspire L350 is a miniature multimedia powerhouse with full-featured PC functionality. Measuring a mere 3 liters in volume dimension the Aspire L350 presents a perfect balance of performance and size. Enhanced acoustics and thermal solution make it the ideal choice for a digital home. This small form factor media center and PC stands both horizontally and vertically on the desktop for optimal space saving. A bright silver coating and cool-blue luminescent indicator lights modernize the decoration of any living room while matching with existing consumer electronic equipment.

Ferrari 1000 notebook PC is inspired by the speed and power of Ferrari and Formula One racing, with an ultra-sporty look that conveys the cutting-edge technology within. Ferrari racecar elements are reinforced through design details such as automotive paintwork, dashboard-like luminescent buttons, and foot-pedal touchpad buttons. It uses high-tech carbon fiber material, highly resilient and normally used in the aerospace industry. Equal to A4-size surface area and weighing 1.6kg, the Ferrari 1000 easily slots inside a briefcase, making it ideal for road warriors. The Acer/Ferrari identity extends to the external DVD-super Multi-drive and Bluetooth® mouse, and entire packaging set.

Acer c500 is a full-featured PDA with built-in GPS technology, wireless LAN and Bluetooth® communication. Its slim and compact form factor serves as a vehicle navigation tool as well as pedestrian handheld tour guide. One-touch rotation switches between portrait and landscape views. Secure handling and straightforward navigation is ensured via an easy-grip back and four large launch buttons, icons and 5-way joystick, especially when on the road. The bright 2.8" screen provides excellent visibility of 3D maps and route calculations.

The Red Dot award ceremony will take place on 25 June 2007 in Germany, at the Essen Aalto Theater in front of more than 1,000 guests. Acer's winning products will then be exhibited in the Red Dot design museum for the duration of one year. For further information please go to www.red-dot.de/press.
