Acer to join the Olympic Movement as Worldwide TOP Partner in 2009

The agreement beginning on 1st January 2009 includes the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, December 6, 2007 -- Acer is proud to sign an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) beginning in 2009 to partner with the Olympic Movement in the official computing equipment product category for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Under this agreement, Acer will be listed among the Worldwide TOP Partners for both the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the acquisition strategy pursued by Acer, the partnership will be beneficial also for Gateway.

"The experience with the International Olympic Committee will bring a fresh and new approach," comments Gianfranco Lanci, President, Acer Inc. "It will be like being part of a huge community of men and women who, though sharing different feelings and emotions, are driven by a common intent to promote an open dialogue built on solidarity and support. Seen in this perspective, differences become beneficial to all parties, something that is in line with Acer's objective to build easy-to-use technological solutions that are shaped around real people and real needs."

Sport can either be for teams or individuals, but it is animated by a unique spirit that brings culture, science, languages and codes together. As sport overcomes barriers by acknowledging the value of difference and the strength of common objectives, technology is moving in the same direction by facilitating communication among different populations.

"The universality of the Olympic Games has a strong influence on us, as it brings people together, overcomes prejudice and gives full respect to diversity," explains J.T. Wang, Chairman & CEO, Acer Inc. "This principle is the basis of our winning formula to building Acer into a successful global company. We truly believe in it and exercise the principle in our daily operation."

IOC President, Jacques Rogge said, "We are delighted we will welcome Acer to the TOP Partner Programme in 2009. For the Olympic Movement, this partnership will deliver funding to help stage the Olympic Games in Vancouver and London, technology equipment and services to manage the logistical demands, and people to staff some of the most critical functions. In addition, the relationship will play an important role in the promotion of the Olympic Movement and sport across the globe."

The United Kingdom and North America are two of the areas in which Acer has invested more in the last years, both for positioning and for the expansion of the business. The brand recognition and the positive market results recorded here have further strengthened Acer's commitment towards a coherent business model, a solution-rich product portfolio, and towards the research and development of tools that deliver answers and solutions to people's real needs.
