Acer Chairman J.T. Wang named in TIME 100

Wang expresses his appreciation to be selected for TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (May 4, 2010) – Acer Chairman J.T. Wang has been named in the 2010 TIME 100 – an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine. Wang regards this honor as reflection of the growing worldwide recognition for Acer, and expresses his appreciation to TIME, the jury and voters of the poll. Wang placed No. 2 in the list of Leaders.

According to Wang, at the time of Acer’s major reorganization announced in 2000, his appointment as Acer president by former chairman Stan Shih presented him with the opportunity to serve on an international platform, for which he is most grateful for. In Wang’s tenure as chairman of the company, tremendous support and contribution have been given by CEO Gianfranco Lanci, the core management team, suppliers and channel partners. The cooperation of all parties has helped Acer expand and grow to be acknowledged by TIME magazine.

In the past twenty-something years, said Wang, the PC has progressed into an open system that has allowed Taiwan’s high tech industry to build a well established supply chain. This advantage has enabled Taiwan to grow in market share and influence; Acer has kept alongside this tempo in the global industry and, hence, continued growth. Wang regards Acer as being “in the right place at the right time” to be part of this PC industry evolution. Further, he regards himself fortunate to witness and join in the development of the global IT industry.

With an optimistic outlook for Taiwan’s industry and economy, Wang believes that as long as critical decisions are made correctly at the key moments, more and more leaders and companies from Taiwan will rise to win global respect and recognition.

The TIME 100 list, now in its seventh year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals. As Managing Editor Rick Stengel has said of the list in the past, “The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world … it’s a list of the most influential people in the world … People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people.”

The full list and related tributes appear in the May 10 issue of TIME.
