Easy Disassemble Design

Acer led the way in screwless PC designs back in 1991 and to this day we continue to research and improve screwless assembly methods. Advantages of the screwless design are:

  •  Convenience for user to upgrade and replace
  •  Convenient maintenance
  •  Easy to disassemble and recycle end-of-life computers

Acer promotes easy recycling and treatment of discarded products. Acer product design principles emphasize modularization, and components that are easy to dismantle and recycle. Acer also emphasizes labeling that provides clear information about the use and recycling of plastics, and requires its suppliers to comply with these design requirements. Acer's dismantle /recycle design principles are as follows:

  • Whenever possible, only one type of plastic is used per component
  • Make every effort to avoid bonding and soldering different materials
  • Make every effort to avoid using surface adhesive technologies on plastic components
  • Affix recycling labels that are easy to read and durable on all products
  •  Affix material labels on all plastic parts and components weighing 25g or more according to ISO 11469 or ISO 1043 requirements to facilitate separation
  • Put recycling label on all batteries

Product quality is of foremost concern when considering reuse of plastics. Currently no Acer products contain reused plastics, however Acer is keeping close tabs on technological advancements in applications of secondary plastics.

Recycled plastics

Acer understands that using recycled plastics can save the natural resources and reduce the GHG emission in products. Currently, we use a 28% post- consumer recycled plastic material in monitor casings of EPEAT Gold models including B173 xK series, V173 xK series, B193 xK series, V193 xK series, B193W xK series, V193W xK series, B223W xK series and V223W xK series. The recycled plastic percentage will be around 10%~13% of all plastics used in the monitor. Furthermore, Acer will keep close watch on the quality and application development of recycled plastics in the IT industry, and draw out a phase-in plan with detailed schedule and percentage of gradual replacements.
